"I have to go now."
Walter left. Derek called his name but Walter ignored it. He had to have some time alone before he did something to Derek. He wasn't even sure how to make a proper fist anymore. It would be just like Walter to punch Derek and end up breaking his hand while Derek laughed and ran off into the sunset with Sam.
"Do you think Walter's okay?"
Derek just shrugged. He had no idea why the man just took off like his pants were on fire. Derek knew he should take this opportunity to share his secret with Sam. He just knew she'd be able to help him out.
"Sam I need to talk to you."
Sam took a swig from her beer bottle before putting it back on the table.
Sam waited for Derek to begin but he just sat there. She decided to eat while she was waiting for the guy to speak up.
"I'm in love with Walter."
Sam spit out her beer.
"I'm not sure if I should tell him or not."
Sam wasn't expecting this. She was relieved that the guy wasn't declaring his love to her. Sam wondered if now was the time to tell Derek how she felt. It seemed like it would be easier talking to Derek now that she knew he was gay. It made her realize that she had to come out of the closet herself since she'd been eyeing a girl at the library that she really wanted to ask out. She'd just been afraid to confide in her fellow Rangers. She was starting to realize that her crush on Walter was just a way to make herself believe she could have a future with a man when she really wanted to be with a woman.
"You should tell him. You won't know if you have a chance unless you come clean."
Derek just nodded. They waited for Walter to return which he'd have to do at some point since they were at his place.
