"Angus you're scaring these girls."
Nadine looked at Daffodil.
"Angus is an idiot. I apologize for that. This town isn't like other towns. Penguins can speak and the cupcakes are addictive."
Nadine agreed with Daffodil about the cupcakes.
"Yes dear. We usually don't let outsiders find out about the penguins."
It was a lot to take in. Nadine had felt a pull to this town but wasn't sure why. Shortly after that she found out that her dead friend wasn't dead and now she was in a town with addictive cupcakes and talking penguins.
"I think I need to sit down."
"You already are Nadine."
Nadine looked at Daffodil who had brought her a glass of water.
Nadine just sat there in silence. She sipped her water. Betsy watched her. Finally Betsy couldn't take the silence anymore.
"Are you okay?"
Nadine wasn't sure how she was. She felt like she should be doing something but couldn't figure out what.
"I forgot something."
Betsy looked at the Cartier watch that her grandmother gave her for graduation.
"We need to pick up Boyd."
Nadine finished drinking her water and stood up. She held onto the table for a minute since her legs felt like they were Jello.
Nadine nodded. They walked outside. Nadine tossed the car keys to Betsy.
They got into the car and went to the hospital. Nadine felt like she was in a strange dream She was glad that she wasn't alone. They found Boyd in his room. He smiled when he saw Nadine.
Nadine smiled at Boyd. She had missed him when everyone thought he was dead. It then hit her that reporters would probably swoop down on her dear friend the moment they stepped out of the hospital.
Nadine turned to look at Raymond the talking penguin who had just showed up out of nowhere. She was sure he hadn't been there before.
To Be Cont.
