Some people even refuse to read books that have covers they don't like. I find that ridiculous but each person is allowed to choose to read and not read whatever they want. But ridiculous isn't exactly uncommon since you have people mentioning fat shaming in a book. I get certain warnings but I find this one a bit over the top and yes I am a fat girl. Oh no someone is being an asshole in a book. It is fiction. Fiction and how reality should be aren't the same thing. Reading a book about serial killers doesn't mean I'm going to write letters and marry one. It just is something interesting to read about. I get warning a person about rape or suicide in a book but if you're going to go with fat shaming where is that going to end. Are you going to warn people off because they wear suits in a book?
If you're familiar with the series Sword Of Truth and the character this spin off series is about you can clearly see this doesn't reflect Nicci. Instead this hoopla over a man having an opinion about his book is just making me want to read it sooner. I just wanted to catch up on the Sword Of Truth series before diving into this one. I love the character of Nicci. The artwork of this cover isn't bad but it is a horrible cover in the sense that it doesn't actually reflect Nicci since she doesn't wear heels. Why is she wearing heels? Guess what not all women wear heels. Personally I think they are incredibly stupid so I'm kind to my feet and don't want to torture them by adding a few inches. I'm fine with being short. Also she is known to wear a black dress. She clearly isn't wearing that. Why does she have a sword? Is she trying to be Xena?
It seems to be at least from what I saw not that I spent hours looking through comments that people are just taking the artist's side and calling Terry an asshole. Why is that? Aren't people allowed to have an opinion even if it doesn't happen to be the same as another? A lot of times the covers aren't reflective of the book. Instead this situation seems to be an excuse to bash an author. If you're creating something whether it be art or books or whatever there are going to be people who don't like it. Everyone is allowed to like or not like something. It has to be frustrating to work on a book and end up with a cover that you don't like because it doesn't fit the book. Authors should be allowed to have input in their own book and I think a lot of times the people in charge of putting together the cover aren't actually reading the book to make sure that it matches what is inside the book. Sure the cover artist is talented but that doesn't mean that everyone on the planet is always going to love his stuff.
