The title of this book got my attention and I loved the description. Sadly I was disappointed when I found myself unable to finish this book. I made it 29% of the way in and just couldn't read anymore. It isn't the writing that didn't work for me. I just didn't like that it literally felt like I was watching an episode of Pretty Little Liars (in particular that mid season finale) where I was left full of confusion and questions.
It jumped around too much. It starts off with the town making a sign that seems to be a big deal but I have no idea why. It jumps to Frankie as a twelve year old having a chat with his dad. Next it jumps to Frankie as a widow with a twelve year old kid. It just didn't make sense. It just didn't flow smoothly. I think there's potential but there's some work that needs to be done. Questions need to be answered and instead of going back and forth which gets very confusing just show a little bit of Frankie and his wife raising their son.
I just didn't click with this book. Since there was so much jumping around which meant I had to try to figure out where I was I wasn't able to really feel anything about any of the characters since they didn't seem to be all that developed. For some reason Frankie and his wife raised their kid in an extremely bizarre way. Michael AKA Sparky is very strange. He's too strange. It was total overkill to have this kid that was twelve but seemed more like he was three along with him balding and possibly having that disease that makes kids grow old before they should be. I'm really disappointed because I thought this would be a funny read but it just didn't work for me. I'm sure other people will like it but I'm not one of those people.
