I didn't expect to finish this book as quickly as I did since I'm not the world's fasted reader. I started it today and after a brief moment of putting it down so I wouldn't throw my Fire across the room I picked it back up and kept reading. Too bad there isn't a way to throw an ebook but there isn't unless you want to ruin your poor Kindle or whatever you happen to be reading the ebook on.
This is a crazy world where the slightest mistake results in the person getting branded. This goes way beyond wearing an S on your chest. This is branded and Celestine gets it in spades after she has the nerve to help a poor Flawed man who was on the verge of death on the bus while the others on the bus couldn't be bothered to acknowledge his existence. I was yelling at this book a lot. I got quite emotional during this book and there were even some tears and a lot of frustration because of the way the characters were. It is scary to think of a world where something like compassion results in punishment and there's no philosophy of learning from your mistakes because you have to be perfect or you're branded for life. Hello humans aren't perfect so we are all flawed. The only one perfect is my fake pet Misty and that's because she's a fake pet and not a human being but that doesn't mean I don't absolutely adore her. I needed to see her after the rush of emotions I experienced while reading this book.
The world in this book is scary. On the surface it might seem like it is working but it is sheer insanity. I yelled quite a lot at this book because there are so many characters that I just don't like. There really needs to be a slap button you can push when someone in a book is pissing you off. I never had to put down a book because I was afraid of throwing it across the room and since this wasn't a physical book that would have been bad because I'm quite fond of my Fire despite it not being cooperative when it comes to downloading lately because I keep getting critically low storage messages or something like that. The book kept me reading and certainly caused me to react but I have to say that it is hard for me to give this book a rating because I'm not totally sure how I feel about it even though I read it so quickly. I'm not sure if that makes any sense. Since I was captivated by Cecilia's writing I will pick up more books by her in the future.
