This is the first book I've read by Carrie and the third in a series but it is the kind of series that you can read out of order. Some genres are more flexible when it comes to that. I'm not a fan of snakes so every time snakes were mentioned in this book I got the creeps big time but it didn't stop me from reading although I'll admit I might have checked around to make sure none of them escaped from the book.
Gwen is sent to Pikeville, Kentucky to do some forensic artistry. She's like Angela from Bones only without the fancy Angelatron. Did I spell that right? Anyhoo she ends up in the middle of utter craziness. There's a rapist on the loose and the victims and the families are just vanishing. There's also utter creepiness with a church that uses snakes in their services. Couldn't they have bunnies instead? I wouldn't mind holding a bunny. Just keep those snakes away from me.
Gwen is a very likable character who also happens to be a mom and she's pretty tough. I totally didn't expect what happened to happen. This book kept me reading to find out what was going to happening next. It really kept me guessing. I also liked that it didn't really have a romance in it. There was plenty of stuff going down so it wasn't really necessary. If you're a fan of books by Tami Hoag or Kathy Reichs this should be right up your alley. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
