ABOUT THE BOOK
Love can be lost but never forgotten. Beautiful, sophisticated, and engaged to the son of a Senator, Evie Masterson has the perfect life. Except for one thing: it's all based on a lie. Five years ago, she created a new identity for herself and cut all ties to her criminal past. But she can't run forever, because something she witnessed years ago comes back to haunt her. And the only person there to help is the man she thought she left behind forever—the one man she's never been able to forget.
Devastatingly gorgeous and just as ruthless, Riley Everett is the criminal for hire who once stole Evie's heart. Years have gone by, but he's never been able to forget her either. Now her life is in jeopardy, and even after all this time, he'd still do anything to protect her, even if that means breaking into her mansion and stealing her away.
As they hide from the world, their long-lost passion reignites. But despite their undeniable chemistry, Evie can't give up the perfect life she's been working toward...and Riley has no part in it.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Brighton Walsh is a storyteller at heart. Love is her first love, and writing about it is a dream come true. When she's not overwhelmed by the incessant chatter in her mind, you can generally find her with her nose buried in a steamy book or partaking in some retail therapy in the Midwest where she lives with her own real life hero and her two energetic kids who (fortunately) know nothing about the naughty things she puts down on paper.

I'm a bit new to the world of new adult. Yes I'll admit that I read books in this genre before I realized it existed. That's happened more than once. I'm dipping my toes in and so far I've been enjoying the books I've encountered. This is the first book I've read by Brighton and it won't be the last because I did enjoy this book. The only problem I had was the sex scenes. I just think I would have enjoyed it more if it didn't feel like they were just having sex all the time which was kinda funny considering the danger they were in.
This book is told from two perspectives. I'll admit that I didn't like Riley at first. After being reunited with Evie after thinking she was dead I couldn't help but laugh at what he said during a sex scene. Maybe I'm just weird that way. I also didn't really like that he was thinking about how he was going to prove to Evie how much he loved he while he was buying condoms. I would have liked to see more talking and less boinking. So depending on your tastes you might or might not enjoy this book. If you like a lot of steamy scenes and don't mind that this couple isn't doing much in the way of talking this is ideal for you.
It is a perfect summer read. I also really like the cover. I don't let cheesy covers scare me away but this one is great if you're the type of reader that doesn't mind reading this type of book in public. I'm no stranger to yelling or laughing at my book while I'm out book reading so go for it. I think this would probably fall into the guilty pleasures category. I don't think I have any since I do confess to them. I don't hide that I love Hello Kitty. I just like what I like and some of us enjoy some steamy romance every so often.
I'm sure many readers will be able to relate to Evie on some level since I'm sure many of us wouldn't mind running away and starting over somewhere else. She tries to do that but her past ends up catching up with her. I did start to like Riley a bit more after Evie revealed what happened to her when she was younger. It is just so sad that this happens in real life exactly as it happened to her. Some people just really suck so it's no shocker when this bombshell comes out why she doesn't want to tell her parents that she's alive. Evie and Riley get a second chance at love in this book and I for one will be checking out Captive because I did enjoy this one despite the small issue I had with this one.
