Of course having ready access to books is great but the process of choosing a book is simple. Even if you don't have the time to go to the library to look for a book to read you're still taking time to search for a book even if you're looking on your phone. It just baffles me that people allow a number to decide them on whether or not they read a book. That makes no sense. I don't give many five stars. A lot of people seem to think a three star is a bad rating. It means something different to different people. I think it should be done away with.
It is just weird that a website is used as a Magic 8 Ball. Sure use it to see what people think about a book but don't let reviews scare you away from a book that interests you. Since you can get a sample of most books now take advantage of that and read a bit before you decide to get a book. No one is going to always agree about every single book. Do I enjoy buying books? Of course I do but I'm more selective because I'm not rich and I don't want to fall into that hole where I end up buying a bunch of books I don't want.
Take advantage of the library. I'm glad I did when I read When Dimple Met Rishi. That book was a big disappointment. You aren't always going to join the hype train. Also expand your reading to other genres and older books. Sure great books come out all the time but great books are also already out. Don't give into pressure to read a book you don't want to. Read what you want. Listen to what people are saying. I've discovered books that way but ultimately I choose what I'm going to read. I try to avoid the drama where people are attacking an author. Guess what if the book sounds interesting I'm going to read it even if someone says I should be punched in the face for daring to read a book for myself before forming an opinion. It is okay to like a book that others don't. That's how books work. Don't let someone change your opinion about a book you enjoyed.
1. If you like a book by a certain author see what else they've written.
2. Do a search for a certain type of book like horror.
3. Do a search for authors who are like other authors.
4. Go to a library or bookstore and pick a letter. See what title jumps out at you. I have found a lot of great authors this way.
