If you happen to be a seasonal reader you might want to add this to your list of summer reads. It just screams summer to me at least the cover does. I sort of read by season but at the same time I don't because I did read a trilogy in the summer that took place at Christmas with fun horror because I was finally able to find the whole trilogy. I totally forgot that this was the fourth in a series while I was reading it. That seems to be a new thing or maybe this is just something I discovered last year because I can't recall other contemporary books that have done this before I started reading them last year. I'm so tempted to get a shirt that says Save The Stand Alone. Yes this is another book that can be read as a stand alone but it is part of a series. Oh that reminds me you can get the first book free on Kindle.
I really enjoyed this book. It was great to see a strong female lead. Dru is hired as one of Gray Fowler's bodyguards because he has a stalker. I'll admit that I didn't really like Gray at first but he did grow on me. It was a nice change having the female protecting the male since it is so often the reverse. It was nice to see things switched up a bit but I have to admit that I'm still waiting for someone to switch things up even more. It would be great if the one in danger and the one saving don't end up together. Maybe one of them is involved with someone when the book starts or one of them is gay. I also like that the book wasn't just focused on one thing. There are other parts to the story where you get to see Gray's family and Dru's family which makes sense after all the name of the series also happens to be Dru's last name.
The book is well balanced so it isn't all romance or all about the stalker. I so didn't see that twist coming. I thought I was figuring it out at this one part but I was wrong because I so didn't even think of what happened as a possibility. I really enjoyed the characters. Dru's family is great and I like her dog although if I was her I would have named her something else but it makes sense since she was a marine. Fi just doesn't scream name to me but to each her own. I also am now wondering about Biker Church. Dru takes her neighbor there and since I think too much I had to wonder if it was real. I would be all over Book Church especially if they gave out books. Maybe the collection basket could have books in it that you could take or put in instead of having it be for money. Random thought much?
