I did like this book and not just because it is a stand alone. Seriously I need stand alone suggestions stat since I seem to be incapable of finding them. It seems like all the authors that I like do mainly series. I discovered a couple authors just searching the library last night and both of them were series. So I need some major help.
If you have read the Sword Of Truth series you may or may not like this book. I've heard it referred to as a rewrite of Wizard's First Rule which is kinda true. On the plus side this book is much shorter than that one. If you aren't familiar with that series you would probably just enjoy it after all ignorance is bliss. This is a story about a guy named Alex. In his family at the age of 27 the heir inherits a bunch of land. Alex gets the land because his mother was institutionalized at that age. He meets a girl named Jax who is claiming to be from another world.
Jax and Alex work together to stop the bad guy. Radell wants to get rid of magic in his world and wants to use the technology in Alex's world to take over. So yes he is a bit like Jagang in that respect. If you're able to go into a book with an open mind I think it is totally possible to enjoy it even if you read the Sword Of Truth series. Ultimately the only person that can tell you whether or not you like a book is yourself. Go ahead and try it since you might like it and once again I'm begging for someone to give me some stand alone book suggestions. Read on my friends read on.
