It was disturbing. It kept me on edge. I wanted to keep reading. I think reading this book and my need to keep reading might be somewhat like peoples need to see what's going on when there's an accident although I avoid that. This bitch is going down if I see blood. There's only one exception to that and I'm sure if you're a girl you'll know what I'm talking about. Even though I'm not a fan of multiple perspectives since it can reach a point where I just get confused it was done in a way that I enjoyed. I'm not sure if that's the right word since it is kinda weird to say I enjoyed a book that was just so heart crushingly sad and way too realistic since shit like this happens. I do appreciate that even though this was a small town the characters were diverse even though this is a town that was mostly white. I would think a lot of the families would have roots that go way back while not many people would move to a small town like this. I think some would complain that this should have been put in another setting and I do get that but I think no matter what someone will point something out.
Since this book only took place over such a short time span I feel like it could have been longer to try to flesh out the characters but at the same time I'm not so sure I could have handled a longer book even though I pretty much flew through this book. Yes I will be reading more by this author since I did like the writing style. I just hope the next one I read is more light and fluffy since this was dark and disturbing. While I did tear up during this book I did feel a bit of a disconnect from many of the characters since most of them were little more than names. There are snippets of the people through the different perspectives but you really don't have a chance to get to know most of the characters. Even the characters that you get the most of are still a bit lacking. I'm not sure if I'm even making sense. I did like the book and have decided that I won't give it a rating because I just don't feel comfortable giving one and honestly don't know what I would rate it. I would give it a rating of this book was very readable and was quite good even though it was quite sad. And to the next person that checked out this book I say you're welcome because I returned it early. I do that now that I know how to do that with a book I have on the bookshelf on my Overdrive app thingie.
