I'm pretty clueless about the Amish but I do know that I wouldn't make a good one. As I read this book I saw that I would be breaking all sorts of rules. They frown at the whole swearing thing. Oh shit I'd have my tongue cut out. Also I have eight holes in my ears so I'm guilty of that and I couldn't fathom living in a world without the Internet when it exists and not because you're old enough to remember a world that didn't have the Internet.
I didn't know what to think when I picked up this book and started reading. I thought I'd give it a try. Go watch the videos of this Booktuber. He is absolutely adorable and all of his videos are really great. Katie is about to go on Rumspringa which is the thing the Amish do before they commit themselves to the church. They get baptized later in life so they're old enough to agree to join the church. I personally don't care what religion you are or aren't but one thing I don't get is religions acting like they are the only right one and that everyone else is going to hell. This is the case for the Amish. Katie is looking forward to being out in the world so she can experience life before going back to her home.
Things get turned upside down when something happens in the outside world. It isn't a good thing so Katie and the rest of the Amish people plus an outsider are trapped in this little bubble where they are supposedly safe. Now this book is a series. Are you shocked to hear that? Imagine me reading a series. I know it is quite a shock. Anyhoo I did manage to get my hands on the next book so I will be reading it. I did like this book but wouldn't put it on my must get my hands on quickly list. I really doubt I'll be actively seeking out Amish books but it is an interesting take on the whole end of the world thing.
