I believe I got this ARC through the magic of Shelf Awarness. When I picked it up to read it I thought I had messed up the cover but then I noticed that it had the same thing going on with the spine and the back so clearly it is just how the cover is. That does make me think The Mime Order is the same way since I've been wondering about that.
This was a great read. Yes there were tears. I had a total mouth dropped open moment that happens later in the book because I was blown away by how utterly insane and sad it was at the same time. Charlie is easy for me to relate to since we're a bit alike. Charlie isn't like most girls she has a dirty little secret that is revealed when her arms and legs are shown. I also really like the relationships in this books.
There are sad moments of course but I couldn't help but root for Charlie because of how much I can relate to her. This is a great book because the author knows of what she speaks and it shows people that they aren't alone in the world. They aren't the only one with this problem. Hopefully this book and other books that deal with mental issues will finally bit by bit break apart that stimga that's attached to someone that is dealing with mental illness. It was a heartbreaking wonderful read and I am totally going to read more by this author because I really like her writing style. I was able to just ease into this book and keep on going which isn't always the case for me especially when a book is dealing wtih a pretty heavy topic.
