The problem wasn't really the writing. It was the way in which the story unfolded. Shadow gets out of jail and all this weird shit happens. The story is all over the place. Shadow is the main character but you see other little snippets of weird and random shit. I'm kind of surprised I made it as far as I did in this book after reading that last scene in chapter one where the chick eats the guy with her giant vulva. Yep that happens. Why just why? Who doesn't want to read about weird ass sex? Me that's who.
I made it 37 or 38 percent in. It just bounced around too much and it really didn't make any sense. Shadow's working for Wednesday and there are others who are Gods that are long forgotten but they're living in the world. The title confuses me too since these gods are from other parts of the world in this book. I have no desire to watch the show and made up my mind after the chick ate the guy with her giant vagina. I'm okay with the weird but it was just overkill in this book and it really didn't make sense to me. The premise is interesting but it just didn't work for me. Maybe it shows up later in the book but I found it odd that the title is American Gods yet none of them actually showed up in the book.
